A Numerical Model for Three Dimensional Polydisperse Bubbly Flows around Surface Ships
نویسندگان
چکیده
A model for simulating three dimensional polydisperse two-fluid open bubbly flows is presented. The polydisperse model is based on an integro-differential equation for the bubble size distribution function. A multigroup approach is used to discretize the equations in groups of constant mass. The resulting system has four scalar equations (mass and momentum) for the liquid phase and for each group on the gas phase. The model has been implemented in the code CFDSHIPM. Although it is intended mainly for solving surface ship problems, it is flexible enough to simulate many other bubbly flow problems. Some preliminary results for two problems are presented here: 1) a turbulent boundary layer over a flat plate with injection of bubbles of 4 different sizes, and 2) a surface ship with simulated breaking waves boundary conditions. Void fraction and number density solutions are shown and analyzed. A. Larreteguy, D. Drew, P. Carrica, F. Bonetto. 2

Shock Propagation in Polydisperse Bubbly Liquids
We investigate the shock dynamics of liquid flows containing small gas bubbles, based on a continuum bubbly flow model. Particular attention is devoted to the effects on shock dynamics of distributed bubble sizes and gas-phase nonlinearity. Ensemble-averaged conservation laws for polydisperse bubbly flows, together with a Rayleigh–Plesset-type model for single bubble dynamics, form the starting...
متن کاملNumerical Calculations of Ship Induced Waves
Nowadays, various numerical methods are developed to extend computational fluid dynamics in engineering applications. One of the most useful methods in free surface modeling is Boundary Element Method (BEM). BEM is used to model inviscid fluid flow such as flow around ships. BEM solutions employ surface mesh at all of the boundaries. In order to model the linear free surface, BEM can be modifie...
متن کاملNumerical simulation of shock propagation in a polydisperse bubbly liquid
The effect of distributed bubble nuclei sizes on shock propagation in a bubbly liquid is numerically investigated. An ensemble-averaged technique is employed to derive the statistically averaged conservation laws for polydisperse bubbly flows. A finite-volume method is developed to solve the continuum bubbly flow equations coupled to a single-bubble-dynamic equation that incorporates the effect...
متن کاملDirect Numerical Simulation of Bubbly Flows and Application to Cavitation Mitigation
The direct numerical simulation (DNS) method has been used to the study of the linear and shock wave propagation in bubbly fluids and the estimation of the efficiency of the cavitation mitigation in the container of the Spallation Neutron Source liquid mercury target. The DNS method for bubbly flows is based on the front tracking technique developed for free surface flows. Our front tracking hy...
متن کاملNumerical investigation of upward air-water annular, slug and bubbly flow regimes
In this paper, numerical investigation of upward two phase flow of air-water has been studied. Different conditions of flow regimes including annular, wispy annular, slug, churn and bubbly are simulated based on Hewitt and Roberts map, and a good agreement between the experimental data of the map and the numerical simulation has been observed. Accordingly, a proper CFD model in CFD software of ...
